  • Vocational training at the Senckenberg college in Frankfurt/Main as "certified assistant for natural history museums and research institutes". The training comprises theoretical lessons in zoology, botany, geology/palaeontology and social sciences as well as collection management of different sections at the Senckenberg Museum and workshops. Three months are spent in each collection (in my case: Messel research, entomology (butterflies), mammalogy (bats and fruit bats including their parasites) and crustaceans. My practical exam I did in mammalogy.
  • Since 2001, employed as taxidermist in the osteological section.

Projects

After removing the animals skin I extract its' bones and roughly clean them mechanically. Subsequently I let them mazerate in a special apparatus and then clean them mechanically once more. Bones usually contain fat, and are made fat free in a special installation using the chemical Trichlorethylen.

I also look after our dermestide beetles which help to clean fragile bones of smaller animals. Once the bones are clean they are inventoried and put into the osteological collection.

I also help with the installation of permanent and temporary exhibits.
